Ingredients
- 9 Yukon gold potatoes, medium-sized, sliced into 1/4u2033 slices
- 1 tbsp butter/margarine
- 1 1/2 cups milk 2 %
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cups of sliced mushrooms
- 1 tsp thyme
- 1 tbsp thyme
- 1 1/2 tbsps chopped garlic
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 1 1/2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 lb ground beef, lean
- 2 tbsps flour
- 1 cup beef stock
- 2 tbsps water
- 2 tbsps butter
- 1 tbsp flour
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream (35%)
Instructions
Make the scalloped potatoes:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in flour until smooth.
- Slowly whisk in the cream, then the milk. Bring to a simmer.
- Add nutmeg, thyme, garlic, salt, and pepper. Reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes.
- In a 9×13-inch baking dish, layer half the potatoes. Sprinkle with half the cheese and pour half the sauce over. Repeat with the rest.
- Bake for 1 hour, until golden and bubbly.
Make the Salisbury steak:
- In a bowl, mix the ground beef, salt, pepper, and water.
- Shape into four patties about ½ inch thick. Cover and chill for at least 1 hour.
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties until they are browned on both sides. Remove and set aside.
