Love Letter Pastries
Ingredients
- 1 sheet Puff Pastry (thawed)
- 1\4 cup fruit jam (Strawberry or any flavour you like).
- 1 Egg (beaten).
- Powdered sugar (for dusting).
- Heart-shaped cookie cutter.
- Granulated sugar (for sprinkling).
- Plain flour (for dusting).
Instructions
- Pre-heat the oven to 190 °C and then carefully unwrap the pastry sheet on the tray lined with the flour-dusted baking paper.
- Carefully cut the thawed puff pastry sheets into equal diamonds.
- With the help of a cookie cutter, cut heart shapes for each diamond.
- Place about a teaspoon of fruit jam in the centre of each diamond, without overfilling it.
- Start folding them into the shape of an envelope by bringing 2 opposite sides towards the centre and folding up the bottom at last and sealing them carefully.
- Gently place the heart-shaped pieces in the middle.
- Prepare an egg wash by adding a teaspoon of milk or water to the beaten eggs in a bowl.
- Brush them all with the egg wash and sprinkle the granulated sugar on top.
- Put them in the oven and bake for about 12-18 minutes until they turn golden brown.
- Let them cool for about 6-8 minutes, and dust some powdered sugar before serving.
Tips
- Seal the edges of the pastry with the help of a fork before an egg wash.
- Thaw the sheets as per the instructions on the package.
