A smoked salmon cheese ball is an easy and tasty appetizer you can make in minutes. It has a creamy texture, a light smoky flavor, and a crunchy coating. You can serve it with crackers or fresh veggies. It is also great to make ahead for parties, holidays, or any gathering.
Smoked Salmon Cheese Ball
Ingredients
- 16 ounces of cream cheese
- 2 tablespoons sour cream
- 2 tbsp fresh herbs (chives, parsley, dill, etc), chopped
- 1 1/2 teaspoon lemon pepper seasoning
- 1 cup pecans, roughly chopped
- 1/2 cup red onion, finely diced
- 12 ounces smoked salmon, or regular salmon plus one teaspoon liquid smoke (see notes above)
Instructions
- Add the cream cheese, sour cream, salmon, red onion, and lemon pepper to a mixing bowl.
Use your hands to mix everything well. You can also use a stand mixer if you like. - Shape the mixture into a ball with your hands. It will feel soft, but it will get firmer after chilling. If it feels too soft to shape, place it in the fridge for 30 minutes.
- Mix the chopped pecans and fresh herbs together, then spread them out on a plate or cutting board.
- Roll the cheese ball over the pecans until it is fully covered.
- Serve right away with crackers or slices of vegetables, or keep it in the fridge until you are ready. The flavor gets stronger as it sits, so you can make it a day ahead.
